The Sakhalin Microcredit Program developed a network of sustainable microfinance institutions on Sakhalin Island, providing loans to micro and small entrepreneurs with little or no access to the formal banking sector. This program creates and sustains private businesses and jobs, establishes financial intermediaries, delivering high-value products at competitive, market-based interest rates to support businesses.
A two-tiered financially sustainable Russian microfinance institution in the Sakhalin Region has been created: the Sakhalin Small Enterprise Development Foundation (SSEDF)/Sakhalin Small Business Credit Society (SSBCS).

Success Stories

 
Irina successfully expanded her family retail trade business with the Nogliki-Tymovsk Credit Program funding. Her acquaintances told her the NTCP quickly processes loan applications, and loan officers provide assistance and advice to borrowers in projecting the budget and future operations. She borrowed under the program twice; expanded her business; and hired 8 new employees (thus meeting one of the basic program goals to generate employment). She is now entering the tourism business.
